Yes, before we moved in December it had fish in it. I can't recall
which ones, but I think it was the otoclinus. I've used the tank for years.

When I set it up this time, I did a fishless cycle using ammonia. I'm
beginning to suspect that, although I did the shake test to make sure it
had no soap in it - and it certainly had no fragrance other than
ammonia. And the label just says "clear ammonia". Besides, even if it
poisoned the water, I would have expected a 90% water change (all but
what was in the gravel) would have cleared it up.

Besides water and gravel, all that was in the tank was one large white
granite rock, 4 plastic plants, and a plastic hollow tree, all of which
have been used before. I'm stumped, but we'll see how the next test
works out. Maybe I can keep someone else from having a similar problem.
