[tropical fish club] Snail Just Playing Dead?

 

Here's is another one for you pros: I have a snail, about 1" in diameter, that I got from the LFS about 2 months ago. For the past week he has spent a great deal of time floating but just when I think he must be dead he'll show some signs of life. Well, today I was so sure that he was a goner that I scooped him out and put him in a cup of tank water. He was 'closed' up. About 20 minutes later I saw he had opened up a bit and his feelers seemed to be moving. I touched him and he closed up again. So, I put him back in the tank. He has been floating for the past 3 hours. What's up? I'm leaving town on Saturday and won't be back until Tuesday. My family won't know how to deal with him. Any suggestions?
