8-25 I left Fredrick's Landing with my brother in his boat for the Mill Creek. We got our lines in the river at 07:10. My brother had 2 hard bites on chunks of Skipjack. He was too slow getting to the rod and missed both bites. We moved 2 times to get some action in the same general area.
10:32 finally I hooked a small Bluecat. It was only 3 pounds 6 ounces and 22 inches, it hit the big red smokie. At 10:55 I caught a small channel cat on a chunk of thawed shad. That fish was 1.5 pounds and 16 inches. I did get a couple of taps on beef liver as well. Both of the fish were put back in the river to grow bigger.
The weather was perfect but the fish were not really hungry. We got back to Fredrick's around 13:00, at least not skunked on this trip.
By the way around this part of the Ohio River Skipjack herring are related to the Blue herring. The problem is finding them to catch for bait. This year it has been even harder to locate them. it has even been hard to get gizzard shad in a net. That is why I have been using store bought items for bait.
