Hi Henry,
Watch the babies when you feed them the crushed Flakes....if they're eating it alright, it should be fine....I would think.
We kept our babies in the tank with their parents, whom, btw, did not eat them. :o)
It was a riot to watch them. Obviously we had a bare tank, with ornaments....the little guys had a ball hiding and "exploring".
I believe there are some pictures in one of my albums...maybe, Joanne and John's..

Do you think the First Bites, are basically the same as flakes crushed
real fine?
My babies from live bairrers always do well with the finely crushed flakes,
I know they are bigger fry though.
