While I can't comment on any of the other topics you've mentioned, I haven't found very much conflicting advice written by RECOGNIZED (as I previously stated) authoritative authors of aquarium books.

And how does a beginner decide who is "RECOGNIZED"?

I think you're deliberately picking silly examples, Ray. I meant the
kind of thing in woodworking where one author says shellac is resistant
to moisture and another says it isn't.
And accomplished wood turners disagree in print over the "best" grind
for a bowl gouge.
As far as fish, the good example is the difference in maximum size
and/or preferred temperature range quoted by different authors. And any
written book, including Baensch is quickly out of date on naming - names
just change too often.
Model railroading? Just look up articles on ballast and whether to use
diluted matte medium or diluted white glue to fasten it down - as well
as "wet" water vs alcohol to overcome surface tension.

You must be speaking ex cathedra, you're certainly pontificating :-). I'm starting to suspect that any discussion with you will turn into an endless loop so I'll let the subject drop - you win :-).
My advice to beginners stays the same - read everything you can in print
and online - a consensus will usually emerge. Don't take what any one
person says as gospel - not me and not Ray. And good luck - it's a
fascinating hobby.
