Swimming in spirals is not a symptom of dropsy. Dropsy is when the fish is swollen to the extent that when viewed from above the scales look like a pinecone; they stand out from the body. Dropsy is a symptom of a failure of the fish's internal organ system caused by some sort of disease, bacterial or otherwise. Like edema in humans where the body retains too much fluid and becomes swollen. When you get the info Donna asked for, she and others may be able to help you narrow down the possibilities as to what is happening with your fish. Could be a bacterial problem affecting their swim bladder.
As for feeding your catfish: get some sinking pellets and put them in at night when you close the lights. The pellets are made either for algae eaters or for omnivorous fish so get the one that suits the glassies diet.....Good luck....Ginny
