Hi Donna
I wear my glasses ( blind as a bat with out them) to check for ick. They did
have the signs of ick when I first brought them home. But, it was very short
lived because I checked on line and they said raise the temp to 86F/30 Celsius.
They said heat that high would be well tolerated and in ten days to start
turning the heat down a once and hour. I only did it once a day for two days and
the fish started flicking themselves again. I rose the heat to 86F./30 C. As
long as the heat stays up at thirty/eighty-six they look happy. Which makes me
happy.
One more thing I meant to mention before I consider myself to be a novice but
the tank although has some problems is well established. I also add good
bacteria and fertilize my plants as often as I can.
Thanks for your help, Donna.
Erika

Can you see white specks like grains of salt on the fish?
Your temp is 86 F if my temp conversion worked right. The ick should be gone
in a few days. Keep the temp at 86 till 3 days past where you see the last sign
of ick.

Hi all
I just did my tank yesterday and try as I might to get the new water that I add
the same temperature as the water that is left in the tank after I have taken 36
liters out.
I noticed last night that my Ocean Dusk Platy and the orange male were agitated
and flicking themselves off the plants. I know that this could mean they have a
parasite or perhaps, Ick.
I have my tank set to 30 C. Which usually works but when I did the tank change
the temperature went down quite a bit. Three or more degrees.
I don't want to use Ick medicine because it says on it this product causes
cancer(in California).
Should I use some aquarium salt? I don't want to damage my plants either. They
started looking brown on parts of their stems and foliage.
If anyone knows what to do I would be forever grateful.
I am tired of having sick fish.
Thanks.
Erika
