First of all seperate the goldfish from the tropicals. The goldfish like cold water. I bet they are glad the heater can not keep up. Your mollies will over populate the tank is you let them. The babies they have can be traded to mom and pop type pet stores for store credit(get fishfood and such). If your goldies are already large they need the larger tank if they are small use the 35 for your goldfish. Goldfish emit a hormone the regulates growth. They will grow much slower in a smaller tank and they do not need heaters. The more tank the merrier for fish lovers.
And no bettas can not be housed with any large finned fish. You can put a few species in with a batta. Tetras that are fast moving and have small fins and tail work in 10g or larger tanks.
