>>Yes, I know about the red alcohol in thermometers. That is why I was
surprised when the pharmacist told me they weren't sold anymore
because they were 'dangerous.'
My pharmacist said GLASS thermometers were dangerous compared to the
newer plastic, battery operated ones. Do you think that's what yours
meant?
When I hear sweeping pronouncements like your pharmacist's, I tend to
ask more questions right then and there. Most of the time people have
NO idea what the facts are behind what they are parroting, and when
that becomes obvious, then I do my own homework.
People can accept and repeat the silliest things till it seems like
everyone has heard and passed it along, and it becomes accepted even
if it isn't accurate.
But in this case, if it is broken glass rather than the fluid they are
talking about, I remember several times from my own childhood when a
child plus a thermometer resulted in a broken thermometer and a mother
in a panic about finding every piece of glass to decide whether to go
to the Emergency Room.
