Large tanks are so much fun. I focus on breeding alot of the time so I have many smaller tanks. I have over 200 tanks in storage(in my barn). Most of them are 10s, 15, and 20s. I have a few 40 gallon "breeder" tanks and several 55s. I also have a 280 gallon home made tank. I started getting it ready a couple years ago and more life stepped in so it did not get going. I have to say my favorite size tank for display/show are 75 gallon tanks to date. The size allows you larger fish species and many more decorating ideas. Both of my 75s are no longer with me. My son busted one and the other was sold during my divorce.
I say go for it. Larger tanks are actually easier to keep than smaller ones. The water chemistry does not go bad as quickly. Once you cycle the tank you just do your partial water changes and you can stretch those out easier than you can with small tanks. With all sizes of tanks the key is under populate the tank with standard filtration. But with larger tanks it is easier to do a wet/dry sump which increases the gallons of water in your system so you can over populate the tank but not your water capacity. I was setting up a homemade sump that held about 75 gallon under the 280. This tank though was planned for african cichlids of which breed in colonies. So it was going to be started very low density but with luck it would be over populated in no time, then aquabid they go.

I keep going back and forth over whether or not to sell the tank or have some fun with it; I just can't decide if I really have the time to dedicate to it right now. But, a tank of possibilities can be fun too!
Thanks again for this topic, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane.
