Depending on the kind of cichlids you have, a bristlenose pleco may work. They have spines so they often aren't bothered by aggressive fish. I'd get a bigger one, tho.
I put MTS snails in my cichlid tank. They cleaned the walls and caves up really nicely and the cichlids didn't eat them. Some here dislike them because they can bother your filter. I put some tuille over the filter intake and haven't had any problems since.
