Just to add something more.  I haven't bought the camping chlorine remover but will today.  Thanks so much for this suggestion.

 

On my Britta filter, I refill the cartridges with charcoal I got from Walmart in the fish section.

I cut a "V"-shaped hole in the side of the filter.  Empty it out and refill it with fresh charcoal.  It does the job perfectly.

 

It lasts a couple of months...4 or so.
