Everyone thinks of cory cats when somebody asks about catfish. Nothing
wrong with that. A colony of 10-12 albino corys in a planted tank can
be quite pretty.
But I just got my 40 gallon clear of green water and I populated it with
25 otoclinus catfish. They're really fun to watch if you have enough of
them that they feel secure. As for almost any fish, the more plants you
have the more secure they'll feel.
BTW, as to the green water. As some of you will remember, I tried most
everything. Including removing the fish to another tank so I wouldn't
introduce any food. Nothing seemed to work. Covering the tank for a
week seemed to work, but it only took a couple of days for the
free-floating algae to return.
But recently, some low cost ($50 or so) UV sterilizers have come on the
market. I bought this one:

I installed it a week ago. A difference was noticeable in 24-36 hours.
The tank still isn't sparkling clear, but it's pretty close. Another
week should do it.
I'm sure I spent at least $50 on other stuff trying to clear the water :-).
