Hi, all...thanks for all the info sent. I'll have to check w/water company to find out the "down" times, etc.
When it's windy here, at night I turn off the pump and the fish are just fine in the a.m. and it's really a kick to feed them before I turn the pump back on.
I mentioned Brita filters...and forgot to tell you that I refill them with charcoal I purchase at WalMart...the water tastes great and is so sparkling clean. I have a very large Brita filter that sits on my island in the kitchen and I tap off it all day long, freezing water in my "sport" bottles...I drink a LOT of water...almost exclusively.
Anyway, here is what I finally did to de-chlor my pond water. I sewed a couple of cups of charcoal in a medium-heavy cloth bag and use a large bucket and the two-hole sprinkler in the bucket. I let it spray into this bucket for ten minutes or so (while it's so blamed hot outside and I'm not) and let it slowly drip into the pond (for ten minutes or so). I do this throughout the day when the pond needs topping off. I do let it sit between the ten-minute "turn-ons." I believe that the sun burns off the chlorine...I tasted and smelled this water and it appears just great. When I draw water in my kitchen sink to fill my Brita filter I can smell the chlorine from a standing position...it's very strong...hence the filters and frozen filtered water!!!
Anyway...so far so good.
The remark from Dr. Mann about not being so "clean" with the filter material when you clean it and wah lah, no more cleaning filters every SINGLE day...and the water is wonderful now! Thanks Dr. Mann!
