Working with tropical fish is not without dangers. I got an infection in my right hand called Mycobacterium szulgai. It is a form of tuberculosis.
This is a rare infection usually associated with fisherman. The infection started in my index finger and spread to the palm.
I had to have two surgeries to eliminate the infection resulting in the loss of use of that finger.
I now use surgical gloves when I work with the aquariums or the gloves that go to the elbow if I have to get to the bottom of the aquariums.
So be careful with the aquarium water especially if you have a cut on you hand.
