Now I just treated the whole tank with Prime today since it is the day
between PWC.
I used a whole tsp this time instead of 3/4 tsp as you said the amount may
need to be increased
a bit.
The water test this morning was typical for a pattern I am seeing in this
tank.
Last night the readings were fine. This morning they are back to
Ammonia - .50
Nitrite - .25
Nitrate - 30
So far the colors I have seen are spot on to the colors on the chart for
Ammonia and Nitrite. If there is an in-between color I will be sure to let
you know.
The GH and KH were a bit higher today. I took the GH test twice to make sure
I didn't
do a mistake.
GH - 7 (was 6)
KH - between 8 and 9 (was 8)
Is that unusual for these values to raise?

It's good to see your latest parameter levels where they are -- especially
those which we're most concerned about (Ammonia, Nitrite and to a lesser
degree, the Nitrate). They couldn't be much better, except perhaps for
having
a trace amount of Nitrite), when considering your tap water starts oyt with
having 0.25 ppm Ammonia and about 30 ppm Nitrate. For now, it looks like
your future PWC's would be at 7 gallons.
While there are no test matches on the API chart to indicate Total Ammonia
levels of 0.35 or 0.40 ppm, I was hoping that perhaps you might be able to
tell by any color change between 0.25 and 0.50, any approximate level at
those in-between amounts.
As you can't tell any in-between color difference, and until you get the
SeaChem Free Ammonia test, you'll need to add the Prime in between PWC's as
we
don't want any possible 0.50 reading on the day you're due to make your
next PWC as the 0.25 difference (between the 0.25 and the possible 0.50
levels)
would otherwise contain potentially harmful Free Ammonia -- and we can
expect an increase in Ammonia during these times between PWC's until the
bacteria converting it get fully established, even if it only reaches an
unreadable
0.35 ppm amount.
YES, on all three of your last questions; you're getting to understand this
