Your Welcome Connie,
Now you are in the right church but the wrong pew! <g> How come?
Because your water is great for what they call African Cichlids. They are
very colorful fish and some of the most interesting that you will come
across in the hobby. In addition, most of them do not get the size of
whales so keeping a thankful can make quitea display. They will most
certainly appreciate your pH.
I think I remember somewhere before that you had mentioned about
Pelvicachromis pulcher, Krebensis? They usually like waters that are with a
Ph: 6.5 to 7.5; and a water Temperature of about 75 81 degrees with a lean
toward harder water values. Sounds like your parameters a bit.
Here are some good examples of what those African Cichlids look like and
some set up photo's too.

This last site has some breath taking photo's of some Africans along with
some general info on each fish. I'm afraid I can't offer you much support
on Africans because I have never gotten into keeping any and with my well
water here the opposite of you, at 5.5 pH
the chances are slim that I ever will. What I can tell you from the small
bit that I know of them is that if you have a tank for them you can not have
anything else. For instance, if you have platys or Neon's, it's not a good
idea to throw any Africans in there, because their water parameters are
almost exact opposites.
Enjoy, and please keep us posted on your progress,
bill in pa
