I just bought a couple of Marineland Emperor 280 filters
and was very happy to get a mid level intake strainer with
each of them. These actually serve 2 purposes because
they act as connectors to extend a second plastic section
much deeper into the tank and pick up more from the bottom.
I am actually using the mid-level strainers on older
Emperor 400 filters that are in much deeper tanks and
were purchased before the filters came with with mid-level
strainers. I was unable to extend the plastic intake
deeper into the tank until now. And if I don't want
to use the mid-level intake it only takes a second to
close it.
The 280's are hanging off the ends of smaller tanks
and there was not enough room to do this with the 400
model.

We always turn the filters completely off for an hour
or two when feeding smaller fish and I din't know there
was a setting to reduce the volume of water for this
same purpose.

I am also annoyed with Marineland support. They didn't
know anything about the current rebates for the 280
or 400 and they also told me there is a video on youtube
that explains how to repair and/or clean the impellors
on the 400 but I was not able to find anything.
4 of the 5 Emperor 400's we own are no longer working
properly and I have joined a local tropical fish club
to see if someone there can look at them for me next
week.
