Take your time, this isn't something that should be rushed. If you decide you want to start out with fish only but intend to upgrade it to a reef, be sure to put those basics in place even for just the fish. The same amount of live rock, sand instead of crushed coral, etc. and be sure that the fish you choose are reef safe and don't max out the capacity of the animals in the tank. Corals, being animals, will also put out some amount of waste so figure that into your population from the beginning.
I'm here to help whatever direction you decide to go, just let me know what you want to do and again, ask any/all questions as you make your plans. I'm here to help. :-)

Thanks Dawn, for your most informational reply. i have printed it out. I'm starting to wonder if this is going to be a bit too much. Sounds like i have a lot of thinking to do. Maybe start off just doing a saltwater tank and work by way up to a reef tank. I have a feeling once i get started on this, you will be hearing a lot from me.
thanks again
dianne
