It was brought to my attention today that breeding glofish (aka the danios that have been genetically altered) is prohibited anywhere. I thought everyone should be aware of this because if caught doing it the penalties could be quite high and I'd hate to see anyone have to deal with that.
Apparently there are multiple patents on these fish and the reproduction of them even if it is done naturally (the color that is passed down genetically to offspring).

I'm not sure why any store or breeder would invest in these fish if there is no outlet for the fry other than feeding them off to a predator. :-( I think it's pretty dumb... especially since danios are so easily bred in home aquariums.
