I just bought 6 more 20 gallon tanks. (Some long and some High). I am also tired of using plastic plants. I'd like to set the tanks up with live plants. The cost to plant all these new tanks plus the ones I already own would break the bank. I keep fresh water Angel Fish plus Tetras. Tetras don't like a lot of light but I do have a list of low light plants such as Java plants, etc. I think a lot of low light plants grow slower in low light but can do well with bright light too and grow faster under those conditions. But, could be partially wrong here. When I have tried using real plants in the past, they either failed for lack of good bright sunlight or the tanks went crazy with green algae because I had too much light. (I must admit I didn't take into account back then the required light for any particular plant).
I've been thinking of setting up some "plant growing tanks" outside to try and quickly multiply some "seed" plants so I can later transfer them to my fish populated tanks. I would think Vallisneria would multiply quickly and I could at least use it eventually in Angel Tanks. I think java plants grow quickly in heavy light too. (I think some of the low light plants will grow in heavy light situations such as outside in the Summer and grow faster then in low light situations where they eventually would be planted. (I live in Houston, Texas).
That said, any one on here having a similar situation and if so how did you handle this? In other words, I'd like to FARM enough low light plants this Summer season for in tank use at a later date. (I also worry about our Summers reaching 100 degrees F in the Summer. Maybe a partial day of Sun would be best. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
