While I can't speak on ever using cat hair, I can tell you from my few years that my best results varied by region according to the insect life and life cycles accordingly. I mimicked the bugs of the area when making my flys to get best results. Research the insect life on the river or stream you're planning to fish and make your flys to match. If the bugs happen to be colored like your cat, then you may have some success. Play around.
