I may have to rehome them then, I have had them for some years so will be sorry to see them go.

If the synodontis are large enough to eat them then yes, that also could be your problem. I would consider moving them before they get a chance to finish off the cardinals and start hunting rams.

Another tweo lost last night. I saw both Rams and 5 Cardinals last night. This morning, only 3 Cardinals and now Rams. I woonder what the problem is, maybe another Damselfly Larva>
