Actually Donna, that's not drilled out for saltwater... that is one of the newer style tanks available over in the UK. Having helped quite a few people over in the UK this past 2yrs, one of the things I learned was that what they have available for tanks is very different from what we have here in the US. They can't buy just the basic rectangular aquarium like we can and then customize it with whatever type of filtration we want, etc. Since my husband works for a manufacturer here in the states I asked him about it while trying to help someone find a new tank over there. Glass tanks can't be shipped over there, problems between breakage in shipping as well as customs issues prevent it (and vice versa). Over in the UK they also don't have the large tanks available like we do here, unless they get them custom made, which is typically acrylic and very expensive. If I remember correctly, the largest tank without going custom, is around 65
gallons. Most of the tanks available in the UK have filters built into them, some are plumbed with canister filters, and not overly efficient that way I might add. Their options are extremely limited compared to what we have. And their laws also differ in regards to fish medications, too. They can't get any antibiotic medication over there without a vet prescription, and finding a vet to write one is near impossible. They use topical antiseptics instead of antibiotics... not nearly as effective and completely useless in cases of internal infections. When it comes to fish keeping in the UK it's a whole different world.
There was a time I wanted to move to the UK... until I found out how it is over there to keep fish. Now I would absolutely refuse to live there. Anyways, the tank you see in the photos is a "standard" small/nano tank in the UK. Creating a saltwater environment in one of those would be extremely difficult. Nano tanks and saltwater are very limited for animals to begin with, there are very few fish available that can live long term in a nano tank, and only 1 or 2 would fit into that size. Nano tanks in saltwater are typically used for reef keeping (corals) and because of the tank design and lighting over this kind of tank, it would be difficult to maintain or get anything to grow in there.
