Re: [tropical fish club] Grow a Fish kits

Oh Bill, that "bottom line" is today's all important goal, isn't it?  Unfortunately these kinds of people don't see the "other bottom line" when our environment will no longer sustain us, the animals are extinct, and money eventually means nothing because it can't cure what ails this world...  Just so so sad!  I hope I don't live long enough to see the day that all happens, but it sure does make me fearful for my children, grandchildren, and their children.

This discussion brings back a memory of a customer I tried to help at the store one day a number of yrs ago.  She came in with her 4 kids in tow, looked at everything for at least a 1/2 hr and then came to me asking for help.  When I asked her "what can I do to help you?" her response was, "I want a no maintenance fish tank with no maintenance fish."  I did my best to try to explain to her that when you are dealing with a live animal there is no such thing as "no maintenance" but she was persistent, kept insisting there had to be something.  With that I led her over to my boss and put the question to him, asked if he could suggest something... to which he shook his head and tried again to explain to her that there is no such thing.  One of my coworkers walked past and made mention of the toy store with the long tube shaped "tanks" that have the light in the bottom and plastic fish that float around in them... and said that was as close to no
maintenance she was going to find.  I couldn't help myself, I had to point out that even with the plastic fish, if she wanted to have good viewing, at very least it would require dusting... which was maintenance.  As this woman gathered her kids and headed for the door she was ranting loudly about us being sarcastic... which, I guess in some ways, we were... but what did she expect?

I am always amazed at how many people purchase the kits such as the sea monkeys and the frogs and now these killiefish kits, thinking they will take it home and have no work involved in caring for live animals/creatures.  What is our world coming to?

Yes Dawn,

You're entirely right in your view but unfortunately you're missing that one important point------------------------------the bottom line!

They are not interested in anyone learning anything

about anything------just make a buck!

More's the Pity,

Bill
