Fish: Re: [tropical fish club] tumor gold fish

This "disease" sounds more like cancerous tumors, which especially fantail goldfish are prone to. The primary cause is genetics, just as in people, but dirty water contributes to goldfish tumors. Goldfish also are known for getting benign (non cancerous) tumors, also tend to be caused by dirty water conditions. The benign tumors ARE treatable with extremely clean water and healthy diet.

There are a number of diseases fish can carry that are contagious to people, but here in the US this is not a real common problem anymore. There is one in particular that comes to mind and is known to affect koi but I can't think of the name of it at the moment. I can post again when I find the specific name of it.

A disease called "tumor goldfish" does not sound accurate, so I am wondering if the tumor problems I mentioned above are what you were thinking about? Cancer is not contagious and the benign tumors are also not contagious.

Can I ask where you got your information about "tumor goldfish"?
