I don't recall making any mention that you were the one who actually "did"
anything. When I stated that relatively minor temperature differences
between glass and the medium it's surrounded by are not going to cause it to
shatter...specifically a towel soaked in cold water against an average
aquarium...you say I'm wrong. You then gave an example that I should take a
heater set to 80 and drop it into a tank, it will shatter as if the reason it
shatters is because the temperature of the glass heater is 80 while the temp
of the tank is 76.
Your example proves my point though I am sure that's not what you meant to
do. It shatters because the glass heater is ridiculously hot, so hot that
it would produce a severe burn on unprotected skin in short order and gets
cooled suddenly.
I'm also well aware of your resume. I've seen it mentioned each time
someone disagrees with you. But to be clear, no matter how well versed you are
in heater and all things aquaria, a cold wet towel placed against an
aquarium will in no way put it at risk for shattering. Not in 20 years, not in
40 years, not ever.
Thanks,
JP

I never said I was the one who did it... I am well versed on aquarium
heaters(among other things), have been for over 20 yrs now

Hmmm, come on now brother. Why does it have to be a matter or stupidity
and nothing else? Why can't it simply be an accident? Like forgetting to
unplug the heater when doing a water change and exposing the heating
portion
of the equipment? Everyone here is above forgetfulness? What about not
even being aware there was a problem with plugging it in and THEN
submerging
it? Maybe others are of the same impression as Dawn that the heater can
only be at the temperature it's set at?
I think it's a bit harsh to label anyone that commits and easily made
mistake as stupid or dumb.
Besides, the glue on the back of stamps/envelopes didn't work out too well
for Susan on Seinfeld. With regards to gum, choking certainly is hazardous
to life. ;)

Please tell me , who would be so dumb (stupid) as to work with a glass
heater that is plugged in to the outlet and turned on
to 80 degrees and then put it into a tank of cold water or a fish tank
???????? Come on now !
If that is all the credit for "smarts" to some in this hobby....????
Well they had better take up something that they can not get hurt on...
Like stamp collecting , or bubble gum chewing.
