I grew up along the Ohio river and I never saw that. He must have been
really hungry :-).

We did have one as a pet. He'd lay his head all the way back on his
shell with his neck stretched out for us to scratch it. I'm not sure if
it was me or my friend who was foolhardy enough to try it the first
time. Unfortunately, he ate all the goldfish in the pond at my friends
place and his mother had turtle soup for dinner that night :-).
