Hello friends.
I have had my 72gl bowfront up for about 9 years. I just recently lost our first fish, a domino damsel. I hope he had a good 8+ years in my tank!
The reason I am writing is I have ALWAYS had a heck of a time keeping my PH at normal levels and my alk at normal levels. When I add buffer to increase the PH, my alk goes too high.
Currently the tank seems to be kind of lack luster. The coralline algae and other softy coral grown has kind of stopped, even with the normal water changes. I am thinking I just need a new light set up to update things and other additives to the R/O water to balance things out better. As I said, it's been a battle trying to keep the PH and alk in normal range, and after nearly 9 years I just want the tank to look beautiful again.
It's the same live rock and coral we've had from the start. It's just not really growing/spreading anymore. I have a total of 5 fish. Just lost my 7 year old yellow tang today.
So...would love any info on the best lighting system and possible developments in water treatment.
We use bottled R/O water and the ph is very low to begin with so I am used to having to add buffer. Just think what I am using is no longer working...well..it never really worked b/c once the ph was normal the alkalinity would be too high.
Thanks in advance for any insight or web links etc.
