If they're shaped like a long and skinny cornucopia, they're Maylasian
trumpet snails. Some folks add them on purpose as they keep the
substrate stirred up much like earthworms do on land. They can become a
nuisance if they get too thick, but don't overfeed and scoop them out
when they get too large and numerous.
If your water quality gets bad, you can have a mass die off. Which of
course makes the water even worse. But that's a very rare occurrence if
you take care of your tank.
