The 8 gallons every two days would work for me better as my water has to
stand several hours to cool off.
The tank is now 77 degrees. As our house is cooling a bit as the outside
temps go down a bit.
I do have a heater that came with the tank but I don't like it. I turn the
top dial until the light comes on and
it is very hard to turn. So I try to turn it back down until the light just
goes out. And then bump it up until it goes
back on to get it set to heat the tank a degree or so. But no matter how I
try this dial turns a good quarter inch
before I can get the light to come on or off. I don't want to heat the tank
too warm and I don't want to have to
watch the temp in the tank constantly to get it adjusted to 78 degrees.
Can anyone recommend a good heater that has a better control dial?

Looking at your water parameters of late yesterday, I notice the Ammonia,
Nitrite and Nitrate are all elevated, even if not exceedingly so. To
maintain them less stressfully, you may need to increase the PWC quantity by
at
least another gallon if you prefer to make them every two days.
You may recall, that in the early morning of September 18th, that I
suggested making daily PWC's (or 4 gallons). As I don't believe 4 gallons
was
enough -- although I don't remember for how long it was until you next
changed
the water -- you might try 5 gallons each day if your schedule allows it,
otherwise, go to 8 gallons the next time if you're going to do PWC's every
two
days.
