I think there's a lot of truth to that, Lee. I hope you stuck around
long enough to read this response :-).
I do prefer to cycle a tank by adding ammonia directly rather than
depend on the fish to provide it, but that's because, to me at least,
it's simpler. I don't have to feed the fish or change the water.
And since my water comes direct from an underground aquifer, I don't
even have to add chlorine remover :-).
